It’s great to see from the recently released Phone Paid Services FY 2019 -20 annual review that consumers in the UK spent £646.1 million on phone-paid services in 2019–2020, which represents an increase in revenue of 2.4% from £630.9 million in 2018–2019.
At Fonix we’re not just following the growth trend, we’re flying ahead — having increased our end user (consumer) spend revenues by more than 21% during the same period. We’ve managed to achieve this with our consultative approach to helping our clients use our services in new and creative ways, increasing payment conversion and revenue streams.
According to the Phone Paid Services annual review, consumers spent an estimated £146.1 million on TV and radio engagement services in 2019–2020, for example on participation in competitions run by TV and radio broadcasters. This was up by +£42.8 million from last year and was positively impacted by the introduction of higher price points for participation by certain radio broadcasters and some smaller radio stations embracing premium rate services. This trend certainly reflects the results we’ve been able to deliver for our broadcast and media clients.
The industry is thriving in a number of key sectors; as mobile operator billing continues to grow we’re focusing our efforts on innovation across TV, Radio, OTT and Charity, while continuing to grow our interests in markets that have not traditionally seen carrier billing before such as parking, leisure and the diet sector.
