Sunshine, strategy and punting: Team Fonix heads to Cambridge

20/06/2023

On Wednesday 14th June, Team Fonix made their way northeast of London for the annual Fonix away day — this year’s choice of location was the historic and scenic city of Cambridge.

Sat in the gorgeous sunshine at the botanical gardens, we tucked into a tasty picnic, played some friendly but slightly competitive games of spike ball and yes, it was one of the hottest days of the year! We had the opportunity to reflect upon the year and delve into exciting future endeavours at Fonix. This was a golden moment for us to come together as a team and think big for the future of Fonix.

We continued the day with team building, which consisted of punting along the River Cam and a cocktail and mocktail-making bootcamp. We even had a little history lesson and learnt that the Daiquiri cocktail was named after the location it was created in – the town of Daiquiri on the southeastern tip of Cuba! Who knew?

The day culminated with a team meal and drinks, featuring the Fonix Oscars (or Foscars) handed out by CEO Rob Weisz to recognise outstanding work. A couple of these included the ‘Fonix Float’, won by Lead Software Developer Konstantin (who always keeps afloat even when things get tough) and the ‘Fonix Superstar’, won by Software Developer Philip (for an amazing contribution to Fonix over the last year).

The day was a great way to reinforce the team’s common purpose and we returned feeling refreshed, refocused and reignited with energy!
