On Tuesday 16th July, Team Fonix made their way down to the south coast for the annual Fonix strategy day – this year’s location was Bournemouth. The day provided us with a chance to reflect on the past year, discuss what’s gone well, run through development points and plan for future success — all with a glorious, picturesque seaside setting! We were glad to be in the 29ºC Bournemouth heat considering the 40ºC weather in London!
The entire day was based around Bournemouth beach where we had a picnic lunch near the lower gardens, followed by a trip to the Oceanarium to get a break from the sun. We then had drinks at a sandy beach bar to really bring the holiday feel to the day as we were waiting for our table reservation on Bournemouth pier.
Leading from the pier we headed to Smugglers Cove mini golf to heat up the competition (if it wasn’t already hot enough!), where teams of 6 got together for 18 holes with everyone at Fonix showcasing their golfing talent.
After an intense mini golf competition and a freshen up at the hotel, we made our way to the restaurant where the traditional speech was made by our CEO Rob Weisz to give a highlight of the first half of the year, showing what we have done well and our aims for the future. Foscars (Fonix Oscars) were then announced after dinner and Rob delivered them like a true Oscars host. Notable winners included Software Engineer Ravi Ramanathan, who won Mr Happy, Our Solutions Consultant Ollie Allum who took home Best dressed and Head of Client Management Clare Charles was awarded the secret Fonix Superstar award.
After dinner we made our way to Eden Bar for a drinks reception and we were then split into teams and took part in a Fonix Pub Quiz that tested the extensive knowledge of our employees in 4 categories, including a round specific to Fonix as a decider.
We finished the trip off with a morning swim in the sea! The weather didn’t look too great at this point but it was by far the best hangover cure!
All in all, the trip was a great way to reinforce the team’s relationship and aims. We returned feeling refreshed, refocused and ready for the rest of the year. Already looking forward to the next one!
